In 1955
The clothing workshop Kwiek opens in the Schoterveld expansion plan, with work for about 60 women. Only a few girls from Nieuwveen itself come to work there.
In 1955
The first houses of Schoterveld go up in the Nieuwkoop polder, west of the W.P. Speelmanweg. Never before had anything been built in the municipality's agricultural area.
Beginning with the year 1962
More and more commuters settle in the Schoterveld expansion plan. They buy houses of their own, built with a state grant or in the private sector without government support. The make-up of Nieuwveen's population changes profoundly as a result.
In 1964
The clothing workshop Kwiek, started in Schoterveld in 1955, closes. The municipality buys the building and fits it out as a gymnasium, chiefly for primary school pupils. In the evenings local clubs use it, among them the gymnastics club Kwiek.
