In 1964
The clothing workshop Kwiek, started in Schoterveld in 1955, closes. The municipality buys the building and fits it out as a gymnasium, chiefly for primary school pupils. In the evenings local clubs use it, among them the gymnastics club Kwiek.

In 1846
Nieuwveen gets its first industry: the wind-powered sawmill De Angenieta, near the Kattenbrug, founded by Jeremias Schoenmakers — son of the Reformed minister Pieter Schoenmakers. The Zaagmolenpad (Sawmill Path) is named after this mill.
In 1896
The sawmill De Angenieta by the Kattenbrug, dating from 1846, is pulled down, timber sheds and all. Pieter Schoenmakers carries the business of the firm J. Schoenmakers on at the Amsterdam Houthaven, where it comes to great prosperity.

The clothing workshop Kwiek opens in the Schoterveld expansion plan, with work for about 60 women. Only a few girls from Nieuwveen itself come to work there.
