From 1823 to 1825

The river Aar is substantially improved and the Aarkanaal dug. The old bridge, the Duivelsbrug (Devil's Bridge), gives way to a wooden double-leaf drawbridge that comes to be called the Kattenbrug.

The Duivelssluis, the lock in the Aar beside the Duivelsbrug, falls out of use. A new complex of locks at the Tolhuis in Leimuiden takes its place.

The Nieuwkoop steam pumping station is built at Korteraar to a design by W.C. and K. de Wit, fitted with two British Gwynnes centrifugal pumps. It takes over the drainage of the droogmakerij.

The lower mill H of the Zevenhoven polder on the Ringdijk, built in 1810, disappears. What remains of it still stands and is in use as a house.
