A new provincial road is being laid out, largely on the old railway bed between the former Nieuwveen station on the W.P. Speelmanweg and De Driesprong at Blokland. It is expected in the spring of 1972 and is meant to take through traffic out of the heart of the village, where it causes congestion every day.
In 1972
The new provincial road is completed; the last section is taken into use in 1972, exactly as the original document predicted. The road follows the course of the closed branch railway and relieves through traffic in the built-up area.
The road is later called the N231; part of it bears the name "Oude Spoorbaan", old railway bed, to this day.
